          Chiang Mai : During the period 2001 – 2005 (30 June 2005) a total of 64 projects were approved with a total capital investment of 3,743 million Baht creating 5,585 new jobs. Projects involving agriculture and agricultural products saw total capital investment of 2,160 million Baht for 23projects employing 1,971 workers. Light industry projects saw total capital investment of 546 million Baht for 20 projects employing 2,830 workers. Projects involving electronics and electrical goods saw total capital investment of 42 million Baht for 10 projects employing 112 workers.

          Taiwan is the largest foreign investor in Chiang Mai, accounting for 21% of investment. Taiwanese investment was in mushroom production, food additive production using technology, the refrigeration business, tagging/labeling, and plastic products..

          Japan/USA were the second largest investors. Japanese investment was in light industry, hair and skin-care products and processed foods. North American investment was in light industry, fishing tackle, software and the agricultural industry.

          Australia was the third largest investor. Australian investment was in chromium-plated rust resistant wire netting, sporting goods and the agricultural industry.
